Saaib bin Yazid reported,

During the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abu Bakr and Umar , the call to prayer on Friday was first made when the imam took his seat on the pulpit. When Uthman bin Affan became caliph and the people grew in number, Uthman ordered a third call to prayer to be made on Friday. It was called from a place called az-Zawra, and the practice has remained so ever since.

السائب بن يزيد يقول

إن الأذان يوم الجمعة كان أوله حين يجلس الإمام يوم الجمعة على المنبر في عهد رسول الله ﷺ وأبي بكر وعمر رضي الله عنهما فلما كان في خلافة عثمان بن عفان رضي الله عنه وكثروا أمر عثمان يوم الجمعة بالأذان الثالث فأذن به على الزوراء فثبت الأمر على ذلك
