Anas bin Malik reported,

While the Muslims were performing the dawn prayer, they were suddenly surprised when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ drew back the curtain of Ayesha's chamber and looked at them as they stood in rows. He smiled and laughed.Abu Bakr stepped back on his heels to join the row, thinking that the Prophet wished to come out for the prayer, and the Muslims were on the verge of being distracted from their prayer out of joy.But he gestured to them to complete their prayer, then let the curtain fall. He passed away later that same day.

حدثنا يحيى بن بكير قال حدثنا ليث بن سعد عن عقيل عن ابن شهاب قال أخبرني

أنس بن مالك قال

بينما المسلمون في صلاة الفجر لم يفجأهم إلا رسول الله ﷺ كشف ستر حجرة عائشة فنظر إليهم وهم صفوف فتبسم يضحك ونكص أبو بكر رضي الله عنه على عقبيه ليصل له الصف فظن أنه يريد الخروج وهم المسلمون أن يفتتنوا في صلاتهم فأشار إليهم أتموا صلاتكم فأرخى الستر وتوفي من آخر ذلك اليوم
