Mabad bin Hilal Anazi reported,

A group of us from the people of Basra gathered and went to Anas bin Malik, taking Thabit Bunani along with us so that he might ask Anas on our behalf about the hadith of intercession. We found him at his estate, and we arrived just as he was praying the forenoon prayer. We asked permission to enter, and he allowed us in. He was sitting on his bed.We said to Thabit, "Do not ask him about anything before the hadith of intercession."Thabit said, "Abu Hamza, these are your brothers from Basra. They have come to ask you about the hadith of intercession."Anas said, Muhammad ﷺ told us, "When the Day of Resurrection comes, people will surge against one another in confusion. They will come to Adam and say, 'Intercede for us with your Lord.'He will reply, 'I am not the one for that, but go to Ibrahim, for he is the Friend of the Most Merciful.'So they will come to Ibrahim, and he will say, 'I am not the one for that, but go to Musa, for he is the one to whom Allah spoke.'They will come to Musa, and he will say, 'I am not the one for that, but go to Isa, for he is the spirit of Allah and His word.'They will come to Isa, and he will say, 'I am not the one for that, but go to Muhammad ﷺ.'So they will come to me, and I will say, 'I am the one for it.' I will seek permission from my Lord, and He will grant it to me. He will inspire me with words of praise with which to praise Him, words that do not come to me now. I will praise Him with those praises and fall down prostrate before Him.He will say, 'Muhammad, raise your head. Speak, and you will be heard. Ask, and you will be given. Intercede, and your intercession will be accepted.'I will say, 'My Lord, my nation, my nation.'He will say, 'Go and bring out from it whoever has in his heart faith equal to the weight of a barley grain.'So I will go and do so. Then I will return and praise Him with those praises and fall down prostrate before Him.It will be said, 'Muhammad, raise your head. Speak, and you will be heard. Ask, and you will be given. Intercede, and your intercession will be accepted.'I will say, 'My Lord, my nation, my nation.'He will say, 'Go and bring out from it whoever has in his heart faith equal to the weight of an atom or a mustard seed. Bring him out.'So I will go and do so. Then I will return and praise Him with those praises and fall down prostrate before Him.He will say, 'Muhammad, raise your head. Speak, and you will be heard. Ask, and you will be given. Intercede, and your intercession will be accepted.'I will say, 'My Lord, my nation, my nation.'He will say, 'Go and bring out whoever has in his heart the smallest, smallest, smallest weight of a mustard seed of faith. Bring him out of the Fire.'So I will go and do so."When we left Anas, I said to one of our companions, "What if we passed by Hasan, who is in seclusion at the house of Abu Khalifa, and reported to him what Anas bin Malik told us?"So we went to him and greeted him, and he gave us permission to enter. We said to him, "Abu Saeed, we have come to you from your brother Anas bin Malik, and we have never heard the like of what he reported to us about the intercession."He said, "Go on."So we narrated the hadith to him, and when we reached this point he said, "Go on."We said, "He did not tell us any more than this."He said, "He told me this hadith twenty years ago, when his memory was sound, but I do not know whether he forgot it or whether he disliked you relying on it."We said, "Abu Saeed, tell us."He laughed and said, "Man was created hasty" [Anbiya 21:37]. I only mentioned it because I intended to tell it to you. He told it to me as he told it to you.He continued, "Then I will return a fourth time and praise Him with those praises and fall down prostrate before Him.It will be said, 'Muhammad, raise your head. Speak, and you will be heard. Ask, and you will be given. Intercede, and your intercession will be accepted.'I will say, 'My Lord, give me permission concerning anyone who said, "There is no god but Allah."'He will say, 'By My might, My majesty, My pride, and My grandeur, I will surely bring out of it whoever said, "There is no god but Allah."'"

معبد بن هلال العنزي قال

اجتمعنا ناس من أهل البصرة فذهبنا إلى أنس بن مالك وذهبنا معنا بثابت البناني إليه يسأله لنا عن حديث الشفاعة فإذا هو في قصره فوافقناه يصلي الضحى فاستأذنا فأذن لنا وهو قاعد على فراشه فقلنا لثابت لا تسأله عن شيء أول من حديث الشفاعة فقال يا أبا حمزة هؤلاء إخوانك من أهل البصرة جاءوك يسألونك عن حديث الشفاعة فقال حدثنا محمد ﷺ قال إذا كان يوم القيامة ماج الناس بعضهم في بعض فيأتون آدم فيقولون اشفع لنا إلى ربك فيقول لست لها ولكن عليكم بإبراهيم فإنه خليل الرحمن فيأتون إبراهيم فيقول لست لها ولكن عليكم بموسى فإنه كليم الله فيأتون موسى فيقول لست لها ولكن عليكم بعيسى فإنه روح الله وكلمته فيأتون عيسى فيقول لست لها ولكن عليكم بمحمد ﷺ فيأتوني فأقول أنا لها فأستأذن على ربي فيؤذن لي ويلهمني محامد أحمده بها لا تحضرني الآن فأحمده بتلك المحامد وأخر له ساجدا فيقول يا محمد ارفع رأسك وقل يسمع لك وسل تعط واشفع تشفع فأقول يا رب أمتي أمتي فيقول انطلق فأخرج منها من كان في قلبه مثقال شعيرة من إيمان فأنطلق فأفعل ثم أعود فأحمده بتلك المحامد ثم أخر له ساجدا فيقال يا محمد ارفع رأسك وقل يسمع لك وسل تعط واشفع تشفع فأقول يا رب أمتي أمتي فيقول انطلق فأخرج منها من كان في قلبه مثقال ذرة أو خردلة من إيمان فأخرجه فأنطلق فأفعل ثم أعود فأحمده بتلك المحامد ثم أخر له ساجدا فيقول يا محمد ارفع رأسك وقل يسمع لك وسل تعط واشفع تشفع فأقول يا رب أمتي أمتي فيقول انطلق فأخرج من كان في قلبه أدنى أدنى أدنى مثقال حبة خردل من إيمان فأخرجه من النار فأنطلق فأفعل فلما خرجنا من عند أنس قلت لبعض أصحابنا لو مررنا بالحسن وهو متوار في منزل أبي خليفة فحدثناه بما حدثنا أنس بن مالك فأتيناه فسلمنا عليه فأذن لنا فقلنا له يا أبا سعيد جئناك من عند أخيك أنس بن مالك فلم نر مثل ما حدثنا في الشفاعة فقال هيه فحدثناه بالحديث فانتهى إلى هذا الموضع فقال هيه فقلنا لم يزد لنا على هذا فقال لقد حدثني وهو جميع منذ عشرين سنة فلا أدري أنسي أم كره أن تتكلوا قلنا يا أبا سعيد فحدثنا فضحك وقال خلق الإنسان عجولا ما ذكرته إلا وأنا أريد أن أحدثكم حدثني كما حدثكم به قال ثم أعود الرابعة فأحمده بتلك المحامد ثم أخر له ساجدا فيقال يا محمد ارفع رأسك وقل يسمع وسل تعطه واشفع تشفع فأقول يا رب ائذن لي فيمن قال لا إله إلا الله فيقول وعزتي وجلالي وكبريائي وعظمتي لأخرجن منها من قال لا إله إلا الله
