Abu Saeed Khudri reported,

The Prophet ﷺ mentioned a man from among those who came before you. He said a word, meaning that Allah had granted him wealth and children. When death approached him, he said to his sons, "What kind of father have I been to you?"They replied, "The best of fathers."He said, "I have not stored up any good with Allah, and if Allah has power over me, He will punish me. So look, when I die, burn me until I become charcoal, then grind me down," or he said, "crush me. Then when there comes a day of fierce wind, scatter me in it."The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said, "He took firm pledges from them on that, and by my Lord, they did it. They scattered him on a windy day."Then Allah said, "Be," and there he was, a man standing.Allah said, "My servant, what made you do what you did?"He replied, "Fear of You," or, "dread of You."The Prophet said, "Nothing made up for that except His mercy upon him at that moment." Another time he said, "Nothing made up for it but that."I narrated this to Abu Uthman, and he said, "I heard this from Salman, except that he added in it, 'Scatter me in the sea,'" or as he narrated it.Musa narrated to us, Mutamir narrated to us, and he said "lam yabtair." Khalifa said, Mutamir narrated to us, and he said "lam yabtaiz." Qatada explained it as meaning "he did not store up."

عن النبي ﷺ أنه ذكر رجلا فيمن سلف أو فيمن كان قبلكم قال كلمة يعني أعطاه الله مالا وولدا فلما حضرت الوفاة قال لبنيه أي أب كنت لكم قالوا خير أب قال فإنه لم يبتئر أو لم يبتئز عند الله خيرا وإن يقدر الله عليه يعذبه فانظروا إذا مت فأحرقوني حتى إذا صرت فحما فاسحقوني أو قال الإسكندرية فإذا كان يوم ريح عاصف فأذروني فيها فقال نبي الله ﷺ فأخذ مواثيقهم على ذلك وربي ففعلوا ثم أذروه في يوم عاصف فقال الله عز وجل كن فإذا هو رجل قائم قال الله أي عبدي ما حملك على أن فعلت ما فعلت قال مخافتك أو فرق منك قال فما تلافاه أن رحمه عندها وقال مرة أخرى فما تلافاه غيرها فحدثت به أبا عثمان فقال سمعت هذا من سلمان غير أنه زاد فيه أذروني في البحر أو كما حدث حدثنا موسى حدثنا معتمر وقال لم يبتئر وقال خليفة حدثنا معتمر وقال لم يبتئز فسره قتادة لم يدخر
