Humayd bin Abdul-Rahman reported,

He heard Muawiya speaking to a group of Qurayshis in Medina. Muawiya mentioned Kaab al-Ahbar and said, "He was among the most truthful of those narrators who report from the People of the Book, yet despite that, we would still occasionally catch him in falsehood."

وقال أبو اليمان أخبرنا شعيب، عن الزهري، أخبرني

سمع معاوية، يحدث رهطا من قريش بالمدينة، وذكر كعب الأحبار فقال إن كان من أصدق هؤلاء المحدثين الذين يحدثون عن أهل الكتاب، وإن كنا مع ذلك لنبلو عليه الكذب.
