The Prophet ﷺ had a ring made of gold, so the people had rings made of gold as well. Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "I had a ring of gold made for myself," and he threw it away, saying, "I will never wear it again." So the people threw away their rings as well.

اتخذ النبي ﷺ خاتما من ذهب فاتخذ الناس خواتيم من ذهب فقال النبي ﷺ إني اتخذت خاتما من ذهب فنبذه وقال إني لن ألبسه أبدا فنبذ الناس خواتيمهم
