He heard Umar the following day, when the Muslims had pledged allegiance to Abu Bakr and Abu Bakr had taken his place on the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, deliver the testimony of faith before Abu Bakr spoke. Umar said, "To proceed, Allah has chosen for His Messenger ﷺ what is with Him over what is with you. This is the Book by which Allah guided your Messenger, so hold fast to it and you will be guided, for it is by it that Allah guided His Messenger."
حدثنا يحيى بن بكير حدثنا الليث عن عقيل عن ابن شهاب أخبرني
أنه سمع عمر الغد حين بايع المسلمون أبا بكر واستوى على منبر رسول الله ﷺ تشهد قبل أبي بكر فقال أما بعد فاختار الله لرسوله ﷺ الذي عنده على الذي عندكم وهذا الكتاب الذي هدى الله به رسولكم فخذوا به تهتدوا وإنما هدى الله به رسوله
