Ibn Abbas used to seat me beside him on his couch, and he said to me that when the delegation of Abdul-Qays came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he asked, "Who is the delegation?"They replied, "Rabia."He said, "Welcome to the delegation," or "to the people, neither disgraced nor regretful."They said, "Messenger of Allah, between us and you are the disbelievers of Mudar, so command us with something by which we may enter Paradise and inform those we left behind."They also asked about drinks. So he forbade them four things and commanded them with four. He commanded them to believe in Allah, then asked, "Do you know what belief in Allah is?"They replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best."He said, "To bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, to establish prayer, to give zakat," and I think he said, "to fast Ramadan, and to give one-fifth of the spoils of war."He forbade them from using the dubba, the hantam, the muzaffat, and the Naqi, and sometimes he said the muqayyar. He said, "Memorize these things and convey them to those you left behind."
