When the people pledged allegiance to Abdul-Malik, Abdullah bin Umar wrote to him, "To the servant of Allah, Abdul-Malik, Commander of the Believers. I acknowledge my pledge to listen and obey the servant of Allah, Abdul-Malik, Commander of the Believers, according to the way of Allah and the way of His Messenger to the best of my ability, and my sons have likewise acknowledged the same."
حدثنا عمرو بن علي حدثنا يحيى عن سفيان قال حدثني
لما بايع الناس عبد الملك كتب إليه عبد الله بن عمر إلى عبد الله عبد الملك أمير المؤمنين إني أقر بالسمع والطاعة لعبد الله عبد الملك أمير المؤمنين على سنة الله وسنة رسوله فيما استطعت وإن بني قد أقروا بذلك
