Word reached Muawiya, while he was sitting with a delegation from Quraysh, that Abdullah bin Umar was reporting that there would be a king from Qahtan. He became angry, stood up, praised Allah as He deserves, and then said, "Now then, it has reached me that some men among you are relating reports that are neither in the Book of Allah nor transmitted from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Those are the ignorant ones among you. Beware of false hopes that lead their holders astray, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'This matter belongs to Quraysh. No one will oppose them without Allah casting him on his face into the Fire, so long as they uphold the religion.'"Naeem followed him in this narration, from Ibn Mubarak, from Muamar, from Zuhri, from Muhammad bin Jubayr.
