Abu Minhal reported,

When Ibn Ziyad and Marwan were in Sham, Ibn Zubayr had risen up in Makkah, and the Quran reciters had risen up in Basrah, I went with my father to Abu Barza al-Aslami until we entered upon him in his house. He was sitting in the shade of an upper room of his made of reeds, so we sat with him. My father began drawing him into conversation and said, "Abu Barza, do you not see the state into which the people have fallen?"The first thing I heard him say was, "I count it as a reward with Allah that I have come to feel anger toward the tribes of Quraysh. People of the Arabs, you used to be in the condition you well know, of humiliation, scarcity, and misguidance, and Allah rescued you through Islam and through Muhammad ﷺ until He brought you to what you now see. It is this worldly life that has corrupted matters between you. As for that one in Sham, by Allah, he fights only for the sake of this world. And these ones among you, by Allah, they fight only for the sake of this world. And that one in Makkah, by Allah, he fights only for the sake of this world."
