Abdullah used to give a sermon to the people every Thursday. A man said to him, "Abu Abdul-Rahman, I wish you would remind us every day."Abdullah replied, "What prevents me from doing so is that I dislike boring you. I space out my admonitions just as the Prophet ﷺ used to space them out for us, out of concern that we might grow weary."
حدثنا عثمان بن أبي شيبة قال حدثنا جرير عن منصور
كان عبد الله يذكر الناس في كل خميس فقال له رجل يا أبا عبد الرحمن لوددت أنك ذكرتنا كل يوم قال أما إنه يمنعني من ذلك أني أكره أن أملكم وإني أتخولكم بالموعظة كما كان النبي ﷺ يتخولنا بها مخافة السآمة علينا
