Abu Humayd reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed a man called Ibn Lutbiyya over the charity collections of Banu Sulaym. When he came back, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called him to account. The man said, "This is your money, and this was given to me as a gift."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Why did you not sit in the house of your father and mother and wait for your gift to come to you, if you are telling the truth?"Then he addressed us. He praised Allah and glorified Him, then said, "To proceed. I appoint a man from among you to a task that Allah has placed under my authority, and he comes back saying, 'This is your money, and this is a gift presented to me.' Why did he not sit in the house of his father and mother and wait for his gift to come to him? By Allah, no one of you takes anything that is not rightfully his without meeting Allah on the Day of Resurrection carrying it. I shall surely recognize any one of you who meets Allah carrying a camel that grunts, or a cow that lows, or a sheep that bleats."Then he raised his hand until the whiteness of his armpit could be seen, saying, "O Allah, have I conveyed the message?" My own eyes saw it and my own ears heard it.
