Abdullah bin Umar reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade shighar.I asked Nafi, "What is shighar?"He replied, "It is when a man marries off his daughter to another man on the condition that the other man marries off his own daughter to him, with no dowry exchanged between them, or when a man marries off his sister to another man on the condition that the other marries off his sister to him, with no dowry."Some people have said that if a man uses a stratagem to contract a shighar marriage, the marriage is valid and only the stipulation is void. Concerning mutah, they said the marriage itself is invalid and the stipulation is void. Others said that both mutah and shighar marriages are valid and only the stipulation is void.
