Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Utba reported,

I went to Ayesha and said, "Won't you tell me about the illness of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"She said, "Certainly. The Prophet ﷺ grew gravely ill and asked, 'Have the people prayed?'We said, 'No, they are waiting for you, Messenger of Allah.'He said, 'Place some water for me in the basin.'"She continued, "So we did, and he bathed. Then he tried to rise but fainted. When he came to, he said ﷺ, 'Have the people prayed?'We said, 'No, they are waiting for you, Messenger of Allah.'He said, 'Place some water for me in the basin.'"She said, "So he sat and bathed, then tried to rise but fainted again. When he came to, he asked, 'Have the people prayed?'We said, 'No, they are waiting for you, Messenger of Allah.'He said, 'Place some water for me in the basin.'He sat and bathed, then tried to rise but fainted again. When he came to, he asked, 'Have the people prayed?'We said, 'No, they are waiting for you, Messenger of Allah.'The people were gathered in the mosque, waiting for the Prophet to lead the final night prayer. The Prophet ﷺ sent word to Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer. The messenger came to him and said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ orders you to lead the people in prayer.'Abu Bakr, who was a tender-hearted man, said, 'Umar, lead the people in prayer.'But Umar said to him, 'You are more deserving of that.'So Abu Bakr led the prayers during those days. Then the Prophet ﷺ felt some relief and went out, supported between two men, one of them Abbas, for the noon prayer, while Abu Bakr was leading the people in prayer. When Abu Bakr saw him, he started to step back, but the Prophet ﷺ motioned to him not to step back. He said, 'Seat me beside him.' So they seated him next to Abu Bakr.Abu Bakr continued praying, following the prayer of the Prophet ﷺ, and the people followed Abu Bakr's prayer, while the Prophet ﷺ was seated."Ubaydullah said, "I then went to Abdullah bin Abbas and said to him, 'Shall I relate to you what Ayesha told me about the illness of the Prophet ﷺ?'He said, 'Go ahead.'So I related her account to him, and he did not object to anything in it, except that he said, 'Did she name to you the man who was with Abbas?'I said, 'No.'He said, 'He was Ali bin Abu Talib .'"

حدثنا أحمد بن يونس قال حدثنا زائدة عن موسى بن أبي عائشة

عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله بن عتبة قال

دخلت على عائشة فقلت ألا تحدثيني عن مرض رسول الله ﷺ قالت بلى ثقل النبي ﷺ فقال أصلى الناس قلنا لا هم ينتظرونك قال ضعوا لي ماء في المخضب قالت ففعلنا فاغتسل فذهب لينوء فأغمي عليه ثم أفاق فقال ﷺ أصلى الناس قلنا لا هم ينتظرونك يا رسول الله قال ضعوا لي ماء في المخضب قالت فقعد فاغتسل ثم ذهب لينوء فأغمي عليه ثم أفاق فقال أصلى الناس قلنا لا هم ينتظرونك يا رسول الله فقال ضعوا لي ماء في المخضب فقعد فاغتسل ثم ذهب لينوء فأغمي عليه ثم أفاق فقال أصلى الناس فقلنا لا هم ينتظرونك يا رسول الله والناس عكوف في المسجد ينتظرون النبي عليه السلام لصلاة العشاء الآخرة فأرسل النبي ﷺ إلى أبي بكر بأن يصلي بالناس فأتاه الرسول فقال إن رسول الله ﷺ يأمرك أن تصلي بالناس فقال أبو بكر وكان رجلا رقيقا يا عمر صل بالناس فقال له عمر أنت أحق بذلك فصلى أبو بكر تلك الأيام ثم إن النبي ﷺ وجد من نفسه خفة فخرج بين رجلين أحدهما العباس لصلاة الظهر وأبو بكر يصلي بالناس فلما رآه أبو بكر ذهب ليتأخر فأومأ إليه النبي ﷺ بأن لا يتأخر قال أجلساني إلى جنبه فأجلساه إلى جنب أبي بكر قال فجعل أبو بكر يصلي وهو يأتم بصلاة النبي ﷺ والناس بصلاة أبي بكر والنبي ﷺ قاعد قال عبيد الله فدخلت على عبد الله بن عباس فقلت له ألا أعرض عليك ما حدثتني عائشة عن مرض النبي ﷺ قال هات فعرضت عليه حديثها فما أنكر منه شيئا غير أنه قال أسمت لك الرجل الذي كان مع العباس قلت لا قال هو علي بن أبي طالب رضي الله عنه
