Bukhari 6848

Both of them reported the hadith of Ibn Wahb, from Amr, from Bukayr, from Sulayman, from Ibn Jabir, from his father, from Abu Burda.Ahmad recorded that Layth and Saeed bin Abu Ayub differed from him, narrating from Yazid bin Abu Habib, from Bukayr, and Muslim says, "from Ibn Jabir."Muslim bin Abu Maryam said, from Ibn Jabir, from someone who heard the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.Amr's version is sahih, and Allah knows best, because he is trustworthy, and he added a man to the chain. Usama bin Zayd corroborated him, narrating from Bukayr, from Sulayman, from Abdul-Rahman bin Jabir, from his father, from Abu Burda, in the same way.

Al-Hafiz said in Fath al-Bari, volume 15, page 192, after mentioning the disagreement among the narrations,The upshot of the disagreement is whether it concerns an unnamed companion or a named one, the more correct view being the latter. Then the more correct view is that he is Abu Burda bin Niyar. And is there an intermediary between Abdul-Rahman and Abu Burda, namely Jabir, or not? The more correct view is also the latter. Daraqutni mentioned the disagreement in al-Ilal, then said, "The correct opinion is that of Layth and those who followed him." But he contradicted this in Kitab al-Tatabbu, where he said, "The correct opinion is that of Amr bin Harith," and Usama bin Zayd followed him in this.Al-Hafiz then said, I say, this disagreement did not undermine the soundness of the hadith in the view of the two sheikhs (Bukhari and Muslim), for however it is traced, it comes back to a trustworthy narrator.

I say: the hadith is in Ibn Majah, number 2602. The commentator says in Zawaid, its chain contains Abbad bin Kathir Thaqafi. Ahmad bin Hanbal said he narrated fabricated hadiths that he never heard, and Bukhari said, "They abandoned him," and others said likewise. End of quote.
