Jabir bin Abdullah reported,

I fell ill, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to visit me along with Abu Bakr, both of them on foot. When they arrived, I had fallen unconscious. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution and poured the water from his ablution over me, and I regained consciousness.I said, "Messenger of Allah, what should I do regarding my wealth? How should I dispose of my property?"He gave me no answer until the verse of inheritance was revealed.

حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد حدثنا سفيان عن محمد بن المنكدر سمع

جابر بن عبد الله رضي الله عنهما يقول

مرضت فعادني رسول الله ﷺ وأبو بكر وهما ماشيان فأتاني وقد أغمي علي فتوضأ رسول الله ﷺ فصب علي وضوءه فأفقت فقلت يا رسول الله كيف أصنع في مالي كيف أقضي في مالي فلم يجبني بشيء حتى نزلت آية المواريث

Allah's saying, "Allah instructs you concerning your children, for the male a share equal to that of two females. But if they are only daughters, two or more, for them is two-thirds of what he left. And if there is only one, for her is half. And for his parents, to each one of them is a sixth of what he left if he had a child. But if he had no child and his parents inherited from him, then for his mother is one-third. And if he had brothers, for his mother is a sixth, after any bequest he may have made or debt. Your parents and your children, you know not which of them is nearer to you in benefit, an obligation from Allah. Indeed, Allah is ever Knowing and Wise. And for you is half of what your wives leave if they have no child. But if they have a child, for you is a fourth of what they leave, after any bequest they may have made or debt. And for them is a fourth of what you leave if you have no child. But if you have a child, then for them is an eighth of what you leave, after any bequest you may have made or debt. And if a man or woman is inherited from by kalalah and he has a brother or a sister, then for each one of them is a sixth. But if they are more than that, they share in a third, after any bequest made or debt, without harm, as an ordinance from Allah. And Allah is Aleem and Forbearing."
