He reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed a man as a collector of zakat. When the man finished his task, he came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, this is for you, and this was given to me as a gift."The Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Why didn't you stay in the house of your father and mother and see whether gifts would be given to you or not?"Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up that evening after the prayer, recited the testimony of faith, praised Allah as He deserves, and said, "Now then, what is the matter with a worker whom we appoint, and he comes back saying, 'This is from your collection, and this was given to me as a gift'? Why didn't he sit in the house of his father and mother and see whether gifts would be brought to him or not? By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, none of you takes anything from it wrongfully without coming with it on the Day of Resurrection, carrying it on his neck. If it is a camel, he will come with it groaning. If it is a cow, he will come with it lowing. If it is a sheep, he will come with it bleating. I have conveyed the message."Abu Humayd said, "Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his hand until we could see the whiteness of his armpits."Abu Humayd added, "Zayd bin Thabit heard this with me from the Prophet ﷺ, so ask him."
حدثنا أبو اليمان أخبرنا شعيب عن الزهري قال أخبرني عروة
