I heard Khababa say, after he had been cauterized seven times on his stomach that day, "Were it not that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us to pray for death, I would have prayed for it. The companions of Muhammad ﷺ passed on without having taken anything from this world, but we have acquired so much of it that we find no place to put it except in the dirt."
حدثني يحيى بن موسى حدثنا وكيع حدثنا إسماعيل
سمعت خبابا وقد اكتوى يومئذ سبعا في بطنه وقال لولا أن رسول الله ﷺ نهانا أن ندعو بالموت لدعوت بالموت إن أصحاب محمد ﷺ مضوا ولم تنقصهم الدنيا بشيء وإنا أصبنا من الدنيا ما لا نجد له موضعا إلا التراب
