While the Prophet ﷺ was delivering the Friday sermon, a man stood up and said, "Messenger of Allah, ask Allah to send us rain."The sky then became overcast and rain poured down so heavily that the man could barely reach his home. The rain continued without pause until the following Friday, when that same man, or another, stood up and said, "Ask Allah to divert it away from us, for we are drowning."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Allah, let it fall around us and not upon us."The clouds then began to break apart around Madinah, and no rain fell upon its people.
حدثنا محمد بن محبوب حدثنا أبو عوانة عن قتادة
بينا النبي ﷺ يخطب يوم الجمعة فقام رجل فقال يا رسول الله ادع الله أن يسقينا فتغيمت السماء ومطرنا حتى ما كاد الرجل يصل إلى منزله فلم تزل تمطر إلى الجمعة المقبلة فقام ذلك الرجل أو غيره فقال ادع الله أن يصرفه عنا فقد غرقنا فقال اللهم حوالينا ولا علينا فجعل السحاب يتقطع حول المدينة ولا يمطر أهل المدينة
