Abdullah bin Masud reported,

A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, what do you say about a man who loves a people but has not joined them?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "A person is with those whom he loves."Jareer bin Hazim, Sulayman bin Qurm, and Abu Awana followed him in narrating this from Amash, from Abu Waail, from Abdullah, from the Prophet ﷺ.

حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد حدثنا جرير عن الأعمش عن أبي وائل قال قال

عبد الله بن مسعود رضي الله عنه

جاء رجل إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقال يا رسول الله كيف تقول في رجل أحب قوما ولم يلحق بهم فقال رسول الله ﷺ المرء مع من أحب تابعه جرير بن حازم وسليمان بن قرم وأبو عوانة عن الأعمش عن أبي وائل عن عبد الله عن النبي ﷺ
