Abdullah bin Sahl and Muhaysa bin Masud went to Khaybar and separated among the date palms. Abdullah bin Sahl was then killed.Abdul-Rahman bin Sahl, along with Huwaysa and Muhaysa, the two sons of Masud, came to the Prophet ﷺ and spoke about the matter of their slain kinsman. Abdul-Rahman, who was the youngest of them, began to speak.The Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Let the eldest speak first." Yahya said, this means, let the eldest take charge of the speech.So they spoke about the matter of their slain kinsman, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "Will you establish your right to your slain man," or he said, "to your companion, by the oaths of fifty of you?"They replied, "Messenger of Allah, it is something we did not witness."He said, "Then will the Jews clear themselves before you by the oaths of fifty of them?"They said, "Messenger of Allah, they are a disbelieving people."So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ paid the blood-money for him from his own resources.Sahl said, "I once came upon a she-camel from those camels, and she entered an enclosure of theirs and kicked me with her leg."Layth said, Yahya narrated to me from Bashir, from Sahl. Yahya said, I think he said, "along with Rafi bin Khadij." Ibn Uyayna said, Yahya narrated to us from Bashir, from Sahl alone.
حدثنا سليمان بن حرب حدثنا حماد هو ابن زيد عن يحيى بن سعيد عن بشير بن يسار مولى الأنصار
أن عبد الله بن سهل ومحيصة بن مسعود أتيا خيبر فتفرقا في النخل فقتل عبد الله بن سهل فجاء عبد الرحمن بن سهل وحويصة ومحيصة ابنا مسعود إلى النبي ﷺ فتكلموا في أمر صاحبهم فبدأ عبد الرحمن وكان أصغر القوم فقال له النبي ﷺ كبر الكبر قال يحيى يعني ليلي الكلام الأكبر فتكلموا في أمر صاحبهم فقال النبي ﷺ أتستحقون قتيلكم أو قال صاحبكم بأيمان خمسين منكم قالوا يا رسول الله أمر لم نره قال فتبرئكم يهود في أيمان خمسين منهم قالوا يا رسول الله قوم كفار فوداهم رسول الله ﷺ من قبله قال سهل فأدركت ناقة من تلك الإبل فدخلت مربدا لهم فركضتني برجلها قال الليث حدثني يحيى عن بشير عن سهل قال يحيى حسبت أنه قال مع رافع بن خديج وقال ابن عيينة حدثنا يحيى عن بشير عن سهل وحده
