The Prophet ﷺ led the night prayer toward the end of his life. After giving the closing salutation, he stood and said, "Do you see this night of yours? At the head of one hundred years from now, no one currently on the face of the earth will remain alive."The people misunderstood the Prophet's ﷺ statement, taking it to refer to all those reports they were circulating about a hundred years. But what the Prophet ﷺ actually meant by saying, "No one currently on the face of the earth will remain," was that this generation would pass away.
حدثنا أبو اليمان قال أخبرنا شعيب عن الزهري قال حدثني سالم بن عبد الله بن عمر وأبو بكر ابن أبي حثمة
صلى النبي ﷺ صلاة العشاء في آخر حياته فلما سلم قام النبي ﷺ فقال أرأيتكم ليلتكم هذه فإن رأس مائة لا يبقى ممن هو اليوم على ظهر الأرض أحد فوهل الناس في مقالة رسول الله ﷺ إلى ما يتحدثون من هذه الأحاديث عن مائة سنة وإنما قال النبي ﷺ لا يبقى ممن هو اليوم على ظهر الأرض يريد بذلك أنها تخرم ذلك القرن
