Abdullah bin Umar reported,

Umar saw a silk garment being sold and said, "Messenger of Allah, why don't you buy this and wear it for the delegations when they come to visit you, and for Fridays?"He replied, "This is worn only by those who have no share in the Hereafter."Later, the Prophet ﷺ sent Umar a silk garment as a gift. Umar said, "You have given me this to wear, yet I heard you say what you said about it."He replied, "I sent it to you only so that you might sell it or clothe someone else with it."

أن عمر رضي الله عنه رأى حلة سيراء تباع فقال يا رسول الله لو ابتعتها تلبسها للوفد إذا أتوك والجمعة قال إنما يلبس هذه من لا خلاق له وأن النبي ﷺ بعث بعد ذلك إلى عمر حلة سيراء حرير كساها إياه فقال عمر كسوتنيها وقد سمعتك تقول فيها ما قلت فقال إنما بعثت إليك لتبيعها أو تكسوها
