During the illness in which he passed away, the Prophet ﷺ used to recite the Muawwidhat over himself and blow. When his illness grew severe, I would recite them and blow over him, then wipe his own hand over his body for its blessing.I asked Ibn Shihab how he would blow, and he replied, "He would blow onto his hands, then wipe his face with them."

أن النبي ﷺ كان ينفث على نفسه في مرضه الذي قبض فيه بالمعوذات فلما ثقل كنت أنا أنفث عليه بهن فأمسح بيد نفسه لبركتها فسألت ابن شهاب كيف كان ينفث قال ينفث على يديه ثم يمسح بهما وجهه
