During a year of famine under Ibn Zubayr, we were given dates as our provision. Abdullah bin Umar would pass by us while we were eating and say, "Do not pair them together, for the Prophet ﷺ forbade pairing." Then he would add, "Unless a man seeks his companion's permission."Shuba said, "The clause about seeking permission is from Ibn Umar's own words."
