Three legal rulings were established through the case of Barirah.Ayesha wanted to buy her in order to set her free, but her owners said, "We will retain the right of inheritance through clientage." She mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said, "If you wish, agree to their condition, for the right of clientage belongs only to the one who frees the slave."She was then freed, and given the choice either to remain with her husband or to separate from him.One day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered Ayesha's house, and on the fire was a pot bubbling away. He asked for the midday meal, and was brought bread along with some condiment from the household provisions. He asked, "Did I not see meat?"They replied, "Yes, Messenger of Allah, but it is meat that was given as charity to Barirah, and she gifted it to us."He said, "It is charity for her, and a gift to us."
