Severe hunger overcame me, so I met Umar bin Khattab and asked him to recite to me a verse from the Book of Allah. He went into his house and recited it to me. I walked only a short distance before I collapsed on my face from exhaustion and hunger. Suddenly the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was standing over me.He said, "Abu Hurayrah."I replied, "At your service, Messenger of Allah, and at your pleasure."He took my hand and helped me up, recognizing what was wrong with me. He took me with him to his dwelling and ordered a large bowl of milk to be brought for me. I drank from it.Then he said, "Drink more, Abu Hurr."So I drank again. Then he said, "Drink more."So I drank again, until my belly was full and rounded like a bowl.Later I met Umar and told him what had happened to me, and I said to him, "Allah entrusted that task to one who had more right to it than you, Umar. By Allah, I asked you to recite the verse to me, though I could recite it better than you."Umar replied, "By Allah, that I had brought you in would be dearer to me than possessing red camels."
