The Prophet ﷺ was asked about a stray sheep, and he said, "Take it, for it is either for you, your brother, or the wolf."He was then asked about a stray camel, and he became angry, his cheeks turning red, and said, "What business do you have with it? It has its hooves and its water reserve. It drinks water and eats from the trees until its owner finds it."He was asked about a lost item found on the ground, and he said, "Identify its string and its container, then announce it for a year. If someone comes who recognizes it, give it to him. Otherwise, mix it with your own property."Sufyan said, I met Rabia bin Abu Abdul-Rahman.Sufyan said, I did not retain anything from him other than this. I asked him, "Tell me about the hadith of Yazid, the freed slave of Munbaith, concerning the stray animal. Is it from Zayd bin Khalid?"He replied, "Yes."Yahya said, Rabia narrates it from Yazid, the freed slave of Munbaith, from Zayd bin Khalid.Sufyan said, I met Rabia and asked him.
