A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "I have offered myself to you in marriage." She remained standing for a long time.Then a man said, "Marry her to me if you have no need of her."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Do you have anything to give her as a dowry?"The man replied, "I have nothing but my lower garment."The Prophet ﷺ said, "If you give it to her, you will be left without a garment. Look for something else."The man said, "I cannot find anything."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Look, even if it be an iron ring." But he found nothing.So the Prophet ﷺ asked, "Do you know any of the Quran?"The man answered, "Yes, such-and-such surah and such-and-such surah," naming them.The Prophet ﷺ said, "I have married her to you for what you know of the Quran."
حدثنا عبد الله بن يوسف أخبرنا مالك عن أبي حازم
جاءت امرأة إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقالت إني وهبت من نفسي فقامت طويلا فقال رجل زوجنيها إن لم تكن لك بها حاجة قال هل عندك من شيء تصدقها قال ما عندي إلا إزاري فقال إن أعطيتها إياه جلست لا إزار لك فالتمس شيئا فقال ما أجد شيئا فقال التمس ولو خاتما من حديد فلم يجد فقال أمعك من القرآن شيء قال نعم سورة كذا وسورة كذا لسور سماها فقال قد زوجناكها بما معك من القرآن
