Ayesha commented on the verse, "and what is recited to you in the Book concerning the orphan women to whom you do not give what has been prescribed for them, yet you desire to marry them" [Nisa 4:127].She said, "This refers to the orphan girl who is under a man's care, perhaps as a partner with him in his property, and he has the prior claim to her. He himself has no wish to marry her, so he keeps her from marrying because of her wealth, and he will not give her in marriage to anyone else, since he hates that anyone should become his partner in her wealth."
