Urwa reported,

He asked Ayesha about the verse "And if you fear that you will not deal justly with the orphan girls" [Nisa 4:3].She replied, "Son of my sister, this refers to an orphan girl who is under the care of her guardian. He is attracted to her beauty and her wealth, and he wishes to marry her while reducing her dowry. So they were forbidden from marrying such girls unless they dealt justly with them by giving them the full dowry, and they were instructed to marry other women instead."She continued, "Then the people sought a ruling from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ after that, so Allah revealed "And they ask you for a ruling concerning women... and you desire to marry them" [Nisa 4:127]. Allah made clear to them that when the orphan girl possessed beauty and wealth, they desired to marry her for her lineage and status while reducing her dowry, but when she was undesirable due to her lack of wealth and beauty, they would leave her aside and take other women instead."She said, "Just as they would leave her when they had no interest in her, they likewise have no right to marry her when they do desire her, unless they deal justly with her and give her the full dowry that is her due."

حدثني يحيى بن بكير حدثنا الليث عن عقيل عن ابن شهاب قال

أخبرني عروة

أنه سأل عائشة رضي الله عنها {وإن خفتم ألا تقسطوا في اليتامى} قالت يا ابن أختي هذه اليتيمة تكون في حجر وليها فيرغب في جمالها ومالها ويريد أن ينتقص صداقها فنهوا عن نكاحهن إلا أن يقسطوا في إكمال الصداق وأمروا بنكاح من سواهن قالت واستفتى الناس رسول الله ﷺ بعد ذلك فأنزل الله {ويستفتونك في النساء} إلى {وترغبون أن تنكحوهن} فأنزل الله لهم أن اليتيمة إذا كانت ذات جمال ومال رغبوا في نكاحها ونسبها وسنتها في إكمال الصداق وإذا كانت مرغوبة عنها في قلة المال والجمال تركوها وأخذوا غيرها من النساء قالت فكما يتركونها حين يرغبون عنها فليس لهم أن ينكحوها إذا رغبوا فيها إلا أن يقسطوا لها ويعطوها حقها الأوفى في الصداق
