While he was reciting Surah al-Baqarah at night, with his horse tied near him, the horse suddenly began to stir. He stopped reciting, and the horse settled. He recited again, and the horse stirred. He stopped, and the horse settled. Then he recited once more, and the horse stirred again, so he ceased. His son Yahya was close by, and he feared the horse might trample him. When he pulled the boy away, he raised his head toward the sky and could no longer see it.In the morning, he reported this to the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "Recite, son of Hudayr. Recite, son of Hudayr."He replied, "Messenger of Allah, I feared the horse would trample Yahya, who was near it, so I lifted my head and went to him. Then I raised my head to the sky and saw something like a canopy with what looked like lamps in it. I went out until I could no longer see it."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Do you know what that was?"He said, "No."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Those were angels who drew near to your voice. Had you continued reciting, the people would have seen them in the morning, and they would not have been hidden from them."Ibn Hadi said, This hadith was narrated to me by Abdullah bin Khabab from Abu Saeed Khudri from Usayd bin Hudayr.
