When the words "Not equal are those believers who stay behind" and "those who strive in the way of Allah" [Nisa 4:95] were revealed, the Prophet ﷺ said, "Call Zayd for me, and have him bring the tablet, the inkpot, and the shoulder blade," or, "the shoulder blade and the inkpot."Then he said, "Write, "Not equal are those who stay behind" [Nisa 4:95]."Behind the Prophet ﷺ stood Amr bin Umm Maktum, who was blind. He said, "Messenger of Allah, what do you command me to do? I am a man whose sight is gone."So in place of that, this was revealed, "Not equal are those believers who stay behind, apart from those with a disability, and those who strive in the way of Allah" [Nisa 4:95].
حدثنا عبيد الله بن موسى عن إسرائيل عن أبي إسحاق
لما نزلت {لا يستوي القاعدون من المؤمنين} {والمجاهدون في سبيل الله} قال النبي ﷺ ادع لي زيدا وليجئ باللوح والدواة والكتف أو الكتف والدواة ثم قال اكتب {لا يستوي القاعدون} وخلف ظهر النبي ﷺ عمرو بن أم مكتوم الأعمى قال يا رسول الله فما تأمرني فإني رجل ضرير البصر فنزلت مكانها {لا يستوي القاعدون من المؤمنين} {والمجاهدون في سبيل الله} {غير أولي الضرر}
