Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

Umar asked them about the words of Allah Most High, "When the help of Allah and the victory come." They answered, "It refers to the conquest of cities and palaces."Umar then said, "What do you say, Ibn Abbas?"He replied, "It is an appointed term, or a parable given for Muhammad ﷺ. His own death was being announced to him."

أن عمر رضي الله عنه سألهم عن قوله تعالى إذا جاء نصر الله والفتح قالوا فتح المدائن والقصور قال ما تقول يا ابن عباس قال أجل أو مثل ضرب لمحمد ﷺ نعيت له نفسه
