The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Horses are of three kinds. For one man they are a reward, for another they are a covering, and for another they are a burden.As for the one who earns reward through them, he is a man who tethers his horse for the sake of Allah on a long rope in a meadow or garden. Whatever the horse consumes within the length of that rope in the meadow or garden is recorded as good deeds for him. If the horse breaks its rope and gallops up one or two hills, its tracks and droppings are good deeds for him. If it passes by a river and drinks from it though he did not intend to give it water, that too is recorded as good deeds for him. So for that man, the horse is a reward.Another man tethers his horse seeking independence and to spare himself from begging, and he does not forget the right of Allah concerning their necks and their backs. For him, the horse is a covering.And another man tethers his horse out of pride, ostentation, and hostility toward the people of Islam. For him, the horse is a burden."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was then asked about donkeys. He replied, "Allah has not revealed anything to me concerning them except this single, comprehensive verse, 'So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it'" [Zalzalah 99:7–8].
حدثنا إسماعيل بن عبد الله حدثنا مالك عن زيد بن أسلم عن أبي صالح السمان
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال الخيل لثلاثة لرجل أجر ولرجل ستر وعلى رجل وزر فأما الذي له أجر فرجل ربطها في سبيل الله فأطال لها في مرج أو روضة فما أصابت في طيلها ذلك في المرج والروضة كان له حسنات ولو أنها قطعت طيلها فاستنت شرفا أو شرفين كانت آثارها وأرواثها حسنات له ولو أنها مرت بنهر فشربت منه ولم يرد أن يسقي به كان ذلك حسنات له فهي لذلك الرجل أجر ورجل ربطها تغنيا وتعففا ولم ينس حق الله في رقابها ولا ظهورها فهي له ستر ورجل ربطها فخرا ورئاء ونواء فهي على ذلك وزر فسئل رسول الله ﷺ عن الحمر قال ما أنزل الله علي فيها إلا هذه الآية الفاذة الجامعة {فمن يعمل مثقال ذرة خيرا يره ومن يعمل مثقال ذرة شرا يره}
