Jabir bin Abdullah reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, while speaking about the pause in revelation, said in his account, "While I was walking, I heard a voice from the sky. I raised my gaze, and there was the angel who had come to me at Hira, seated on a throne between the sky and the earth. I was terrified of him, so I returned home and said, 'Wrap me up, wrap me up.'" So they wrapped him in a cloak, and Allah the Exalted revealed, "O you who is wrapped in a cloak, arise and warn, and magnify your Lord, and purify your garments, and shun all defilement" [Muddaththir 74:1–5].Abu Salama said, "These were the idols that the people of the pre-Islamic era used to worship."He said, "Then revelation came in close succession."
