Zayd bin Arqam reported,

Zayd said, "I was with my uncle when I heard Abdullah bin Ubayy bin Salul say, 'Do not spend anything on those who are with the Messenger of Allah, so that they will disperse.' He also said, 'If we return to Madinah, the mighty will surely drive out the lowly from it.'I mentioned this to my uncle, and my uncle mentioned it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent for Abdullah bin Ubayy and his companions, and they swore that they had said no such thing. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ believed them and disbelieved me. I was overcome by a grief unlike anything I had ever felt, and I stayed shut up in my house.Then Allah revealed, "When the hypocrites come to you" [Munafiqun 63:1], down to His words, "They are the ones who say, 'Do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of Allah'" [Munafiqun 63:7], down to His words, "the mighty will surely drive out the lowly from it" [Munafiqun 63:8].The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent for me and recited these verses to me, then said, "Allah has confirmed that you told the truth."

حدثنا آدم بن أبي إياس حدثنا إسرائيل عن أبي إسحاق

عن زيد بن أرقم رضي الله عنه قال

كنت مع عمي فسمعت عبد الله بن أبي ابن سلول يقول لا تنفقوا على من عند رسول الله حتى ينفضوا وقال أيضا لئن رجعنا إلى المدينة ليخرجن الأعز منها الأذل فذكرت ذلك لعمي فذكر عمي لرسول الله ﷺ فأرسل رسول الله ﷺ إلى عبد الله بن أبي وأصحابه فحلفوا ما قالوا فصدقهم رسول الله ﷺ وكذبني فأصابني هم لم يصبني مثله قط فجلست في بيتي فأنزل الله عز وجل {إذا جاءك المنافقون} إلى قوله {هم الذين يقولون لا تنفقوا على من عند رسول الله} إلى قوله {ليخرجن الأعز منها الأذل} فأرسل إلي رسول الله ﷺ فقرأها علي ثم قال إن الله قد صدقك
