Awwam reported,

I asked Mujahid about the sajdah in Sad, and he said, "I asked Ibn Abbas, 'On what basis do you prostrate here?'He replied, "Do you not recite 'and of his descendants were Dawud and Sulayman' [Anam 6:84], and 'those are the ones whom Allah has guided, so follow their guidance' [Anam 6:90]? Dawud was one of those whom your Prophet ﷺ was commanded to follow. Dawud prostrated at this verse, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prostrated at it as well.""Ajab" [Sad 38:5] means astonishing. "Qitt" means a written document, and here it refers to the record of the reckoning.Mujahid said that "in izzah" [Sad 38:2] means in contention and hostility, and "the latter creed" [Sad 38:7] refers to the creed of Quraysh. Fabrication means lying. The means are the paths of heaven leading to its gates. As for His words "a host, defeated even there" [Sad 38:11], this refers to Quraysh. "Those were the factions" [Sad 38:13] refers to the generations that have passed. "Respite" [Sad 38:15] means return. "Our portion" [Sad 38:16] means our punishment. "We took them in mockery" [Sad 38:63] means we encompassed them. "Of equal age" [Sad 38:52] means alike.Ibn Abbas said that strength means strength in worship, and vision means perception in the matter of Allah. "Love of good over the remembrance of my Lord" [Sad 38:32] means away from remembrance. He began stroking, that is, he stroked the manes and the hocks of the horses. "Fetters" [Sad 38:38] means bonds.

عن العوام قال

سألت مجاهدا عن سجدة في ص فقال سألت ابن عباس من أين سجدت فقال أو ما تقرأ {ومن ذريته داود وسليمان} {أولئك الذين هدى الله فبهداهم اقتده} فكان داود ممن أمر نبيكم ﷺ أن يقتدي به فسجدها داود عليه السلام فسجدها رسول الله ﷺ {عجاب} عجيب القط الصحيفة هو ها هنا صحيفة الحساب وقال مجاهد {في عزة} معازين {الملة الآخرة} ملة قريش الاختلاق الكذب الأسباب طرق السماء في أبوابها قوله {جند ما هنالك مهزوم} يعني قريشا {أولئك الأحزاب} القرون الماضية {فواق} رجوع {قطنا} عذابنا {اتخذناهم سخريا} أحطنا بهم {أتراب} أمثال وقال ابن عباس الأيد القوة في العبادة الأبصار البصر في أمر الله {حب الخير عن ذكر ربي} من ذكر طفق مسحا يمسح أعراف الخيل وعراقيبها {الأصفاد} الوثاق
