Abu Hurairah reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was one day sitting in the open among the people when a man came walking up to him and asked, "Messenger of Allah, what is faith?"He replied, "Faith is to believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the meeting with Him, and to believe in the final resurrection."The man asked, "Messenger of Allah, what is Islam?"He replied, "Islam is that you worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, establish the prayer, pay the obligatory alms, and fast Ramadan."The man asked, "Messenger of Allah, what is excellence?"He replied, "Excellence is that you worship Allah as though you see Him, for if you do not see Him, He surely sees you."The man asked, "Messenger of Allah, when is the Hour?"He replied, "The one questioned about it knows no more than the one asking, but I will tell you of its signs. When a woman gives birth to her own mistress, that is among its signs. When the barefoot and naked become the leaders of the people, that is among its signs. It is among five things known only to Allah," then he recited, "Indeed, Allah has knowledge of the Hour and sends down the rain and knows what is in the wombs" [Luqman 31:34].Then the man departed, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "Bring him back to me." They went to bring him back but saw no one. He then said, "That was Jibril, who came to teach the people their religion."
