I came to Aas bin Waail al-Sahmi to demand a debt he owed me.He said, "I will not pay you until you disbelieve in Muhammad ﷺ."I said, "No, not until you die and are then resurrected."He said, "And will I really die and then be resurrected?"I replied, "Yes."He said, "Then I will have wealth and children there, and I will pay you from that."So this verse was revealed, "Have you seen the one who disbelieved in Our signs and said, 'I will surely be given wealth and children'" [Maryam 19:77].Narrated by al-Thawri, Shuba, Hafs, Abu Muawiya, and Waki, all from Amash.
حدثنا الحميدي حدثنا سفيان عن الأعمش عن أبي الضحى عن مسروق قال سمعت
جئت العاص بن وائل السهمي أتقاضاه حقا لي عنده فقال لا أعطيك حتى تكفر بمحمد ﷺ فقلت لا حتى تموت ثم تبعث قال وإني لميت ثم مبعوث قلت نعم قال إن لي هناك مالا وولدا فأقضيكه فنزلت هذه الآية {أفرأيت الذي كفر بآياتنا وقال لأوتين مالا وولدا} رواه الثوري وشعبة وحفص وأبو معاوية ووكيع عن الأعمش
