Saeed bin Jubayr reported,

One of the two would add to what the other said, as did others besides them, and I had heard him narrate it from Saeed bin Jubayr, who said, "We were sitting with Ibn Abbas in his house when he said, 'Ask me.'"Saeed said, "I said, 'Abu Abbas, may Allah make me your ransom, in Kufa there is a storyteller named Nawf who claims that this Musa was not the Musa of the Children of Israil.'"According to Amr's version, Ibn Abbas replied, "The enemy of Allah has lied."According to Yaala's version, Ibn Abbas said, "Ubayy bin Kaab told me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Musa, the messenger of Allah عليه السلام, was admonishing the people one day, and when eyes overflowed with tears and hearts had softened, he turned to leave. A man caught up with him and asked, "Messenger of Allah, is there anyone on earth more knowledgeable than you?"Musa said, "No."He was then reproached for this, since he had not referred all knowledge back to Allah. He was told, "Yes, there is."Musa said, "My Lord, where is he?"Allah said, "At the junction of the two seas."Musa said, "My Lord, give me a sign by which I may recognize the place."Amr's version has Allah saying, "Where the fish parts from you."Yaala's version has Him saying, "Take a dead fish. The place where the spirit is breathed back into it is the place."So Musa took a fish and put it in a basket. He said to his young companion, "I ask nothing of you except that you tell me where the fish parts from you."The young man said, "You have not asked much of me."That is the meaning of His words, exalted be His mention, "And when Musa said to his young companion" [Kahf 18:60], meaning Yusha bin Nun. This part is not from Saeed. He said, while Musa was resting in the shade of a rock in a moist spot, the fish began to stir while Musa slept. His companion said to himself, "I will not wake him." Then when Musa awoke, he forgot to tell him. The fish went on thrashing until it entered the sea, and Allah held back the flow of the water from it, so that its track was as if pressed into stone.Amr said to me, "Like this, as if its track were in stone," and he made a circle with his two thumbs and the fingers beside them."We have certainly suffered hardship in this journey of ours" [Kahf 18:62]. Khidr said to him, "Allah has lifted the hardship from you." This part is not from Saeed. The young man told him, so the two went back and found Khidr.Uthman bin Abu Sulayman told me that he was on a green carpet in the very heart of the sea.Saeed bin Jubayr said he was wrapped in his garment, with one end of it beneath his feet and the other beneath his head.Musa greeted him with peace, and Khidr uncovered his face and asked, "Is there any peace in my land? Who are you?"Musa said, "I am Musa."Khidr asked, "The Musa of the Children of Israil?"He said, "Yes."Khidr asked, "What brings you here?"Musa said, "I came so that you might teach me some of the right guidance you have been taught."Khidr said, "Is it not enough for you that the Torah is in your hands and that revelation comes to you? Musa, I have knowledge that it is not proper for you to know, and you have knowledge that it is not proper for me to know."Then a bird took a drop from the sea in its beak, and Khidr said, "By Allah, my knowledge and your knowledge, beside the knowledge of Allah, are no more than what this bird has taken from the sea in its beak."When the two came to board the ship, they found small ferries that carried the people of this shore across to the people of that other shore. The crew recognized him and said, "This is the righteous servant of Allah."We said to Saeed, "Khidr?"He said, "Yes." They said, "We will not carry him for any fare."Then Khidr made a hole in the vessel and drove a peg into it.Musa said, "Have you made a hole in it to drown its people? You have done a dreadful thing" [Kahf 18:71]. Mujahid said that "dreadful" here means abominable."He said, 'Did I not tell you that you would never be able to bear patiently with me?'" [Kahf 18:72]. The first instance was forgetfulness, the middle one was a stipulation, and the third was deliberate."He said, 'Do not blame me for what I forgot, and do not burden me with hardship in my affair'" [Kahf 18:73].Then the two met a boy and Khidr killed him.Yaala said that Saeed said he found boys playing, and he took a handsome disbelieving boy, laid him down, and slaughtered him with a knife."He said, 'Have you killed a pure soul who took no life?'" [Kahf 18:74], meaning one who had committed no sin. Ibn Abbas used to recite it "zakiyyah," and "zakiyah" means a Muslim soul, as when you say "a pure boy."So the two went on and found a wall on the point of collapsing, and he set it upright. Saeed said he did it with his hand like this, and he raised his hand, and the wall stood straight. Yaala said, "I think Saeed said that he stroked it with his hand and it stood straight.""Had you wished, you could have taken a wage for it" [Kahf 18:77]. Saeed said this means a wage we could eat from."and there was ahead of them" [Kahf 18:79], meaning in front of them. Ibn Abbas recited it as "in front of them." As for the king, they claim, on the authority of someone other than Saeed, that he was Hudad bin Budad, and that the name of the boy who was killed was Jaysur."a king who seized every ship by force" [Kahf 18:79]. So I wanted that when it passed him by, he would leave it alone because of its defect. Then once they had passed him, they repaired it and made use of it. Some say they plugged the hole with a bottle, and some say with tar."His parents were believers" [Kahf 18:80], while he was a disbeliever."and we feared that he would burden them with rebellion and disbelief" [Kahf 18:80], meaning that their love for him would carry them into following him in his religion."So we wanted their Lord to give them in exchange one better than him in purity" [Kahf 18:81], which corresponds to the words "Have you killed a pure soul" [Kahf 18:74]."and nearer in mercy" [Kahf 18:81], meaning that they would be more merciful toward this one than they had been toward the first one, whom Khidr killed.Someone other than Saeed claimed that they were given a girl in exchange. As for Dawud bin Abu Asim, he reported from more than one source that it was indeed a girl.
