Abu Mulayka reported,

We came in to see Ibn Abbas, and he said, "Are you not astonished at Ibn Zubayr taking up this affair of his? I said to myself, I will hold myself accountable to him in a way I never did for Abu Bakr or for Umar, though those two were more deserving of every good than he is. I told myself, he is the son of the Prophet's ﷺ paternal aunt, the son of Zubayr, the son of Abu Bakr's daughter, the nephew of Khadijah, and the nephew of Ayesha. Yet here he is, holding himself aloof from me and wanting nothing of it. I said to myself, I never thought I would offer this of myself only to have him decline it, and I do not see him intending any good. But if it must be so, then my paternal cousins ruling over me is more beloved to me than being ruled by others."
