This verse was revealed about us, "When two parties among you were about to lose heart, but Allah was their protector" [Aal Imran 3:122]. He said, "We are the two parties, Banu Haritha and Banu Salama, and we would not wish."Sufyan once said, "It would not please me that it had not been revealed, because of Allah's words, 'But Allah was their protector.'"
حدثنا علي بن عبد الله حدثنا سفيان قال قال عمرو سمعت
فينا نزلت {إذ همت طائفتان منكم أن تفشلا والله وليهما} قال نحن الطائفتان بنو حارثة وبنو سلمة وما نحب وقال سفيان مرة وما يسرني أنها لم تنزل لقول الله {والله وليهما}
