Abu Talha had more date palms than any other of the Ansar in Madinah, and the most beloved of his properties to him was Bayraha, which faced the mosque. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to enter it and drink from its sweet water.When the verse was revealed, "You will never attain righteousness until you spend from what you love" [Aal Imran 3:92], Abu Talha stood up and said, "Messenger of Allah, Allah says, 'You will never attain righteousness until you spend from what you love' [Aal Imran 3:92], and the most beloved of my properties to me is Bayraha. It is now a charity for the sake of Allah. I hope for its reward and treasure with Allah. So place it, Messenger of Allah, wherever Allah shows you."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Well done! That is a profitable property, that is a profitable property. I have heard what you said, and I think you should give it to your relatives."Abu Talha replied, "I will do so, Messenger of Allah."So Abu Talha distributed it among his relatives and his paternal cousins.Abdullah bin Yusuf and Rawh bin Ubada said, "That is a profitable property (mal rabih)." Yahya bin Yahya told me, "I recited it to Malik as mal rayih."
حدثنا إسماعيل قال حدثني مالك عن إسحاق بن عبد الله بن أبي طلحة أنه سمع
كان أبو طلحة أكثر أنصاري بالمدينة نخلا وكان أحب أمواله إليه بيرحاء وكانت مستقبلة المسجد وكان رسول الله ﷺ يدخلها ويشرب من ماء فيها طيب فلما أنزلت {لن تنالوا البر حتى تنفقوا مما تحبون} قام أبو طلحة فقال يا رسول الله إن الله يقول {لن تنالوا البر حتى تنفقوا مما تحبون} وإن أحب أموالي إلي بيرحاء وإنها صدقة لله أرجو برها وذخرها عند الله فضعها يا رسول الله حيث أراك الله قال رسول الله ﷺ بخ ذلك مال رايح ذلك مال رايح وقد سمعت ما قلت وإني أرى أن تجعلها في الأقربين قال أبو طلحة أفعل يا رسول الله فقسمها أبو طلحة في أقاربه وفي بني عمه قال عبد الله بن يوسف وروح بن عبادة ذلك مال رابح حدثني يحيى بن يحيى قال قرأت على مالك مال رايح
