I sat in a gathering attended by prominent men of the Ansar, among whom was Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Layla. I mentioned the report of Abdullah bin Utba concerning the case of Subayah bint Harith.Abdul-Rahman said, "But his uncle did not say that."I replied, "I would indeed be reckless if I lied about a man here in a corner of Kufa," and I raised my voice.Then I went out and met Malik bin Amir, or Malik bin Awf. I asked, "What was Ibn Masud's view concerning a woman whose husband has died while she is pregnant?"He said, Ibn Masud said, "Do you impose upon her the stricter ruling and deny her the concession? The shorter Surah of Women was revealed after the longer one."Ayub reported from Muhammad, "I met Abu Atiya Malik bin Amir."
