When the Prophet ﷺ came, she said, "Prophet of Allah, Umar said such and such."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "And what did you say to him?"She replied, "I said such and such to him."He said, "He has no greater claim to me than you do. He and his companions have one migration, but you, the people of the ship, have two migrations."Asma said, "After that I saw Abu Musa and the companions of the ship coming to me in groups, one after another, asking me about this hadith. There was nothing in the world that delighted them more or stood greater in their hearts than what the Prophet ﷺ had said to them."Abu Burda said that Asma said, "I saw Abu Musa asking me to repeat it over and over again."Abu Musa said, "News of the Prophet's ﷺ coming reached us while we were in Yemen, so we set out to migrate to him, myself and two brothers of mine, I being the youngest of the three. One of them was Abu Burda and the other was Abu Ruhm." He said either "a number of men" or "among fifty-three, or fifty-two, men of my people. We boarded a ship, and our ship carried us to Negus in Abyssinia. There we met Jafar bin Abu Talib, and we stayed with him until we all came together. We reached the Prophet ﷺ just as he had conquered Khaybar. Some people used to say to us, meaning to the people of the ship, 'We came ahead of you in migration.'"Asma bint Umays, who was among those who came with us, went in to visit Hafsa, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ. She had migrated to Negus along with those who migrated. Then Umar came in to Hafsa while Asma was sitting with her, and when Umar saw Asma he asked, 'Who is this?'"Hafsa said, 'Asma bint Umays.'"Umar said, 'The one who went to Abyssinia? The one who crossed the sea?'"Asma said, 'Yes.'"He said, 'We came ahead of you in migration, so we have more right to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ than you do.'"At this she grew angry and said, 'Never, by Allah! You were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who fed the hungry among you and taught the ignorant among you, while we were in a land, far off and hated, in Abyssinia, and all of that was for the sake of Allah and His Messenger ﷺ. By Allah, I will not taste food nor drink water until I tell the Messenger of Allah ﷺ what you have said. We were being harmed and we lived in fear. I will mention this to the Prophet ﷺ and ask him. By Allah, I will not lie, nor twist the truth, nor add anything to it.'"
