The imam stands facing the qiblah with one group of them with him, while another group is positioned facing the enemy with their faces toward the enemy. He prays one rakah with those who are with him, then they stand and complete one rakah on their own, performing the two prostrations in their place. Then this group goes to take the position of the other group, and the imam prays one rakah with them, so he has prayed two rakahs in total. Then they perform their rakah and the two prostrations.Musaddad narrated to us, Yahya narrated to us, from Shuba, from Abdul-Rahman bin Qasim, from his father, from Salih bin Khawat, from Sahl bin Abu Hathma, from the Prophet ﷺ, something similar.Muhammad bin Ubaydullah narrated to me, he said, Ibn Abu Hazim narrated to me, from Yahya, who heard Qasim say, Salih bin Khawat informed me, from Sahl, who narrated to him this statement.Layth followed him in this narration, from Hisham, from Zayd bin Aslam, that Qasim bin Muhammad narrated to him that the Prophet ﷺ prayed in this manner during the expedition of Banu Anmar.
