The tribes of Ril, Zakwan, Usayya, and Banu Lihyan asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for help against an enemy, and he sent them aid in the form of seventy men from the Ansar. We used to call them "the Reciters" in their time. They would gather firewood by day and pray by night. When they reached the well of Maunah, the tribes killed them and betrayed them. News of this reached the Prophet ﷺ, so he made qunut for a month, supplicating during the morning prayer against certain Arab tribes, against Ril, Zakwan, Usayya, and Banu Lihyan.Anas said, "We recited a passage of the Quran concerning them, but it was later abrogated. It went, 'Convey to our people on our behalf that we have met our Lord, and He is pleased with us and has pleased us.'"Qatada reported from Anas bin Malik that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ made qunut for a month in the morning prayer, supplicating against certain Arab tribes, against Ril, Zakwan, Usayya, and Banu Lihyan.Khalifa added, Yazid bin Zuray narrated to us, Saeed narrated to us from Qatada, Anas narrated to us that those seventy from the Ansar were killed at the well of Maunah, and a Quranic passage was revealed concerning them, similar to what was mentioned above.
حدثني عبد الأعلى بن حماد حدثنا يزيد بن زريع حدثنا سعيد عن قتادة
أن رعلا وذكوان وعصية وبني لحيان استمدوا رسول الله ﷺ على عدو فأمدهم بسبعين من الأنصار كنا نسميهم القراء في زمانهم كانوا يحتطبون بالنهار ويصلون بالليل حتى كانوا ببئر معونة قتلوهم وغدروا بهم فبلغ النبي ﷺ فقنت شهرا يدعو في الصبح على أحياء من أحياء العرب على رعل وذكوان وعصية وبني لحيان قال أنس فقرأنا فيهم قرآنا ثم إن ذلك رفع بلغوا عنا قومنا أنا لقينا ربنا فرضي عنا وأرضانا وعن قتادة عن أنس بن مالك حدثه أن نبي الله ﷺ قنت شهرا في صلاة الصبح يدعو على أحياء من أحياء العرب على رعل وذكوان وعصية وبني لحيان زاد خليفة حدثنا يزيد بن زريع حدثنا سعيد عن قتادة حدثنا أنس أن أولئك السبعين من الأنصار قتلوا ببئر معونة قرآنا كتابا نحوه
