Amr bin Awf, an ally of the clan of Banu Amir bin Luayy who had witnessed Badr with the Prophet ﷺ, reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Abu Ubayda bin al-Jarrah to Bahrain to bring back its tribute. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself had made the peace agreement with the people of Bahrain and had appointed Ala bin Hadrami as their governor.Abu Ubayda arrived with wealth from Bahrain, and the Ansar heard of his arrival. They came together for the dawn prayer with the Prophet ﷺ, and when he finished, they presented themselves before him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled when he saw them and said, "I suppose you have heard that Abu Ubayda has arrived with something."They replied, "Yes indeed, Messenger of Allah."He said, "Then receive good news, and hope for what will please you. By Allah, it is not poverty that I fear for you, but rather I fear that the world will be spread out before you as it was spread out before those who came before you, that you will compete for it as they competed for it, and that it will destroy you as it destroyed them."
حدثنا عبدان أخبرنا عبد الله أخبرنا معمر ويونس عن الزهري عن عروة بن الزبير أنه أخبره أن
أخبره أن عمرو بن عوف وهو حليف لبني عامر بن لؤي وكان شهد بدرا مع النبي ﷺ أن رسول الله ﷺ بعث أبا عبيدة بن الجراح إلى البحرين يأتي بجزيتها وكان رسول الله ﷺ هو صالح أهل البحرين وأمر عليهم العلاء بن الحضرمي فقدم أبو عبيدة بمال من البحرين فسمعت الأنصار بقدوم أبي عبيدة فوافوا صلاة الفجر مع النبي ﷺ فلما انصرف تعرضوا له فتبسم رسول الله ﷺ حين رآهم ثم قال أظنكم سمعتم أن أبا عبيدة قدم بشيء قالوا أجل يا رسول الله قال فأبشروا وأملوا ما يسركم فوالله ما الفقر أخشى عليكم ولكني أخشى أن تبسط عليكم الدنيا كما بسطت على من كان قبلكم فتنافسوها كما تنافسوها وتهلككم كما أهلكتهم
